Library Card Month
FREDERICK – Local businesses have teamed
up with Frederick County Public Libraries to encourage people
to sign up for a library card during the month of September, which
is National Library Card Month.
By signing up during the “Key to a Treasure
Chest of Information” promotion, new library users will
receive a goodie bag of valuable information and discount coupons
from area businesses. Some of these goodie bags will also contain
special prizes for random winners.
“A lot of businesses have really stepped
up to the plate in terms of prize donations and other support
for this promotion,” said Erin Dingle, Thurmont Branch Manger,
who is coordinating the effort. “By demonstrating this tremendous
amount of community goodwill, these businesses are helping us
reach the public in a new way.”
In addition to providing prizes, some businesses
have assisted in other ways. For example, Morningstar Design,
Inc., provided the designs for printed materials, which will be
distributed to Frederick County elementary school children. “We
were delighted to work on this project,” said Misti Morningstar,
president, Morningstar Design. “Community support is important
to our company and this was an opportunity to create and give
something special to the Library. We felt the image of this campaign
was very significant because it will be used to encourage our
children and people of all ages to sign up for a library card.
Reading is important in all of our lives . . . and what everyone
receives in the goodie bags donated from our other Frederick County
businesses is added treasure.”
Kick-off Library Card month will be held at
the Francis Scott Key Mall, Wednesday Sept. 1, from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. There will be story telling with Miss Lisa as well as some
numbers performed by the Dewey Decimal Dancers. There will be
